ABOUT THE ARTIST

singer, songwriter, & actor

Some people are lucky enough to know who they are from a very early age. Sakeenah Godfrey is one of them.

Sakeenah was singing before she could even properly speak. Soon after, she found herself performing nursery rhymes and Radio Disney hits for peers before she was even old enough to know what "stage fright" meant. While other kids would tell you they wanted to be astronauts, the President of the United States, or Superman when they grew up, Sakeenah would say she wanted to be a professional singer. Since then, she's never looked back.

When teachers at school noticed and encouraged her natural talents, Sakeenah started voice lessons at just eight years old. By fourth grade, she was singing in auditioned honor choirs throughout her home state of Oklahoma and beyond. At the same time, she gained plenty of theatrical experience, acting in several local musicals and plays. In her final years of high school, Sakeenah discovered a talent and passion for songwriting that endures today.

Sakeenah went on to attend Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. There, she earned a Bachelor's Degree with honors in vocal performance. During her summers, Sakeenah honed her talents further, showcasing them across Europe with the Heidelberg Summer Music Program (2022), Neil Semer's Summer Vocal Institute (2023), and Les Musicales de Redon (2023).

Sakeenah's vocal versatility spans a three-octave range and just about any genre. Pop, rock, opera, musical theater, R&B, and jazz are a staple few. She has collegiate training in acting, musical theater dance, and ballet. Stage experience in recent years includes her roles as Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro, Zophiel in the West Coast premiere of Stewart Copeland's Satan's Fall, Harlem Ensemble in Ragtime, and more!
